From our highly visible Hosts through to our curators and corporate support staff, the team at Te Papa are truly honoured to showcase and preserve New Zealand’s rich heritage and cultural identity. Our people are passionate about providing a valuable, informative, enjoyable, and rewarding experience for visitors.
Based in Wellington, The Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa is a forum for the nation to present, explore and preserve the heritage of its cultures and knowledge of the natural environment in order to better understand and treasure the past, enrich the present and meet the challenges of the future. Te Papa provides museum services that contribute to the Government's outcome of preserving and presenting the taonga (treasures) of our peoples, interpreting the heritage of New Zealand for national and international audiences, and helping establish New Zealand’s place in the world through contextualising our heritage within the heritage of other cultures.
Our people are constantly looking for new ways to engage, stimulate, and surprise our visitors. We create a working environment that is fun, challenging, customer-focused, and a strong community and partnership approach with a range of government, iwi, corporate, and other public and private groups and organisations. We recognise that there is a big responsibility to what we do, which is rewarding within itself.
